There is no single credit score cutoff for every business loan. What funders weigh depends on the product — term loans, SBA loans, lines of credit, equipment financing, and invoice factoring each use different criteria — and many reviews look at personal and business credit together with time in business, revenue, collateral, and use of funds.
Personal vs. business credit
Personal credit reports show how you have repaid consumer and some business-backed debt. Business credit reports, when they exist, track accounts in the company's name. The CFPB's credit report and score guide explains what appears on personal reports and how to dispute errors. For the rules business lenders follow — including credit reporting (FCRA) and equal credit opportunity (ECOA) — see the CFPB small business lending resources. LoanHelp does not pull credit when you submit an inquiry.
Why equipment-backed and invoice-backed options weigh credit differently
Equipment financing ties repayment to a specific asset — lenders still review credit, but collateral and the quote matter alongside scores. Invoice factoring focuses on your customer's ability to pay the invoice; that can shift emphasis away from your personal score compared with an unsecured line. Terms and approvals are always set by your trusted financing partner after they review an inquiry, not by LoanHelp.
What else funders usually review
- Time in business and industry experience
- Recent bank statements and revenue trend
- Use of funds stated in plain language
- Collateral or receivables supporting the product
The SBA's loan programs overview and 7(a) loan program page list the eligibility factors SBA-backed lenders weigh, including credit history and the ability to repay — without naming a minimum score. The Federal Reserve Small Business Credit Survey publishes research on how employer firms use financing; we do not quote survey statistics here.

Common questions
- Is there one minimum credit score for every business loan?
- No. Term loans, SBA loans, lines of credit, equipment financing, and invoice factoring weigh credit differently — and many files look at personal credit, business credit, revenue, time in business, and collateral together. No score on its own guarantees approval or denial.
- Do lenders look at personal credit, business credit, or both?
- Many commercial funders review personal credit for owner-backed small businesses. Some also use business credit reports when a file exists. The mix depends on the product and what your trusted financing partner needs to review an inquiry — LoanHelp does not make credit decisions.
- Why might equipment or invoice financing weigh credit differently?
- Equipment financing often ties repayment to a specific asset; invoice factoring focuses on customer credit and open receivables. That can change which scores and documents matter compared with an unsecured working-capital line — terms still depend on partner review.
- Does LoanHelp run a credit check when I submit an inquiry?
- LoanHelp does not perform a credit check when you submit an inquiry. Our trusted financing partner may request authorization for a credit inquiry later if you choose to move forward.
- How can I check my own credit reports before talking to a funder?
- You can request free personal credit reports through AnnualCreditReport.com and read CFPB guidance on reading reports and scores. Business credit bureaus publish separate files — check what exists for your company before you share information with any funder.
