An equipment loan payment depends on the price you pay, your down payment, the annual rate on your quote, and how many months you finance. Enter those numbers below to see the monthly payment, total interest and a year-by-year amortization summary built only from what you type. A longer term lowers the monthly payment but adds to the total interest you pay.
How the payment is calculated
The calculator uses the standard amortizing loan formula on the amount financed (equipment price minus down payment). Each month, interest applies to the remaining balance and the rest of the payment reduces principal. The CFPB amortization overview explains the same pattern using auto loans: a greater share of each early payment goes to interest, and more goes to principal toward the end.
What changes the payment
A higher price or lower down payment raises the amount financed. A higher annual rate or longer term changes how much interest accrues each month. Change any of the four numbers and the payment, total interest and yearly table update.
Longer terms and total interest
Stretching the term lowers the monthly payment because principal is spread across more months, but you pay interest on the balance for longer. Under your result, the calculator shows the same loan 12 months longer (or shorter at 120 months) so you can see the payment and total interest move with your own numbers.

Common questions
- How is the monthly equipment loan payment calculated?
- The tool uses the standard amortizing loan formula: it spreads the amount financed (price minus down payment) over the term you enter, with interest applied each month on the remaining balance. At 0% interest, the payment is simply the financed amount divided by the number of months.
- Why does a longer term lower my payment but raise total interest?
- More months mean each payment covers a smaller slice of principal, so the monthly number drops. You also pay interest on the balance for more months, which increases total interest — the results panel shows that tradeoff using the price, rate and term you entered.
- Does the result include sales tax, fees or insurance?
- Only if you add them to the equipment price you enter. The calculator works from the price, down payment, annual rate and term you type, so anything not in those numbers is not in the result.
- What should I have ready before an equipment financing inquiry?
- A vendor quote with model and price, new vs. used, down payment you can fund, and basic business revenue and time-in-business figures.
- Will LoanHelp run a credit check when I submit an inquiry?
- LoanHelp does not perform a credit check when you submit an inquiry. Our trusted financing partner may request authorization for a credit inquiry later if you choose to move forward.
